Certified Peer Recovery Specialists
The UP Foundation relies on Certified Peer Recovery Specialists (CPRS) to help its participants achieve ongoing recovery. CPRS are individuals who have personal experience with addiction and recovery, and have completed a training and licensure process with the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). This means they are a person in successful recovery from past substance use or mental health problems, and are trained and certified to assist others in finding recovery.
CPRS have a personal dedication to recovery, and as such, they are able to complement counseling and other therapeutic treatment services with experiential knowledge; they walk through participants’ problems alongside them, providing nonclinical support, and they collaborate with participants and counselors to help create Individualized Treatment Plans (ITP).
